FIFA Ranking: May 2009 final preview

Point totals for teams from the top 20 of the October 2007 ranking should be 100% correct. For the others, there's the issue of historical rankings published before July 2006.

FIFA will publish the May 2009 ranking on May 6th. The deadline for matches is tomorrow, this means there are two more matches left: Myanmar - Cambodia and Bangladesh - Macau. Both are played in the AFC Challenge Cup preliminary competition and are considered friendlies for ranking purposes.

This is how their point totals could change:

Myanmar (W: 129; D: 125; L: 123)
Cambodia (W: 69; D: 63; L: 60)
Bangladesh (W: 70; D: 62; L: 57)
Macau (W: 39; D: 31; L: 27)

Little movement in the top 50 with Poland and Hungary moving up one place at the expense of Costa Rica and Colombia.

Best movers:

12 - Sierra Leone and Chinese Taipei
10 - Pakistan
9 - Maldives and Mongolia

Worst movers:

-9 - Lebanon
-5 - Seychelles and Bhutan
-4 - Angola, Philippines, Nepal, Belize, Brunei Darussalam

Grenada will have their best ever raking - 103rd. Their previous best ranking was 105th in August 1997.

Two countries will have their worst ever ranking:

Lebanon (159th - 151st in October 2008)
Andorra (196th - 195th in January 2009)

2014 FIFA World Cup seeding for UEFA teams (27 April 2009)

The preliminary draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup took place on November 25th, 2007 and used the November 2007 FIFA ranking.

Assumptions:

- UEFA will again have 13 spots
- UEFA will again use the system with 9 groups
- FIFA will use the FIFA ranking to seed the teams
- FIFA will hold the draw in November 2011

The November 2011 FIFA ranking will include matches played between November 2007 and November 2011. We already have the "0.2" part (matches played between November 2007 and November 2008) - that's basically 10% of the final ranking and a bit of the "0.3" part (matches played between November 2008 and November 2009). A lot can and will change before November 2011 as there are many matches to be played involving European teams: 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2010 FIFA World Cup, EURO 2012 qualifiers and plenty of friendlies.

UEFA will only use the national team coefficient for the European Championships draws (qualifying and final tournament).

This is the November 2011 ranking (for UEFA only) using matches played up to and including April 27th, 2009 and matches scheduled up to November 2009.

Bosnia-Herzegovina drop to the 2nd pot after scheduling a friendly in June 2009 (against Oman), with Israel taking their place in the first pot.

Esenta este reducerea numarului echipelor la Ligile a II-a si a III-a in sezonul 2010-2011 si introducerea sistemului play-off si play-out.

FIFA Ranking: May 2009 intermediate ranking

Point totals for teams from the top 20 of the October 2007 ranking should be 100% correct. For the others, there's the issue of historical rankings published before July 2006.

Included: Matches up to and including April 8th, 2009.

Next update: end of April/beginning of May.

Only a handful of matches will be included in the May ranking: AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers and a couple of friendlies. As such, don't expect many changes.

I don't know if FIFA will include the Solomon Islands - Vanuatu friendly match (played on 7/7/2008). They did add it to the Fixtures and Results section, but not in the April ranking.
