FIFA Ranking: June 2009 differences

June 24th, 2009

June 2009 differences solved.

Ghana - Uganda (May 31st) wasn't included in the June 2009 FIFA Ranking calculation, while Qatar - Iraq 1 - 0 (May 31st) was removed from the results (I don't know why).

Comparing the official June 2009 ranking with the last FIFA Ranking update I posted on June 1st, I have a 30 points difference for England and there are another 3 countries with smaller, yet completely unexpected differences: Trinidad and Tobago (4 points), Greece (2 points) and Japan (1 point).

There's also Armenia with 23 points, but I never had official data for them.

Working with FIFA's Information Services department at the moment to get to the bottom of this.

  1. Qatar v Iraq and Oman v South Korea are not deemed full international matches apparently only because Iraq and South Korea used 11 and 12!!! substitutes respectively. 'Six substitutes' is the guideline but matches with seven/eight subs have generally been accepted when both sides agree. My personal opinion is that these sides are making a mockery of international football. If they want to give their players some practice they should organize an 'A' and a 'B' match.

  2. A good alternative to the FIFA rankings is

It has rankings for men and women.

  3. @Raoul

Thanks for the info! Oman vs. South Korea wouldn't have been included anyway as it took place after the semi-official deadline of May 31st.

Hi! I was aware of Mark's ranking, but thanks anyway.
