Well, sort of...
At the beginning of May I arranged my first international friendly. Lithuania - Armenia, set to be played in Kaunas on August 10th, 2011.
My thanks to Hrachya Ghambaryan (Armenia national team manager, Vardan Minasyan is Armenia's coach) and Robertas Tautkus (Lithuania national team manager). Especially to Mr. Ghambaryan who actually believed in my ability to find an opponent for Armenia.
Now I only need 100000 Swiss Francs to become a FIFA match agent. :)
And how Lithuania could agree to that unsuccesfull friendly, they can't win Armenia and they are one of the most overrated teams, also as much as i know Ghambaryan is not the manager of Armenia.
ReplyDeleteVardan Minasyan is Armenia's coach. Ghambaryan is the national teams manager and thus in charge of arranging friendlies.
ReplyDeleteWell done mate. Good luck
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Edgar!
ReplyDeleteGood job man.
How did you do that?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't understand the need for agents at all. Why don't the federations just talk to each other?
By e-mail :)
ReplyDeleteI don't understand it either - just a way to get more money, I guess.
What, did you just say "Hey, wanna play each other?" or what?
ReplyDeleteDid you do it on a whim, or are you seriously interested in this?
Congratulation! Was it really better for them on average more than not playing at all?
ReplyDeleteLiechtenstein's well deserved victory over Lithuania (I watched that match) will put a dent in their World Ranking. If Lithuania play like that against Armenia, it will be a walk in the park for Armenia.
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad Liechtenstein weren't involved in that Wales equation from earlier, or that would be the end of that.
Edgar, is it possible that both teams would lose ranking points, assuming that Armenia wins, Armenia's average could go down assuming that Lithuania had lost lots of ranking points after Liechtenstein?
ReplyDelete@Lorric
ReplyDeleteYes, it was on a whim - I actually wrote to Armenia to ask them if they were planning to schedule a friendly in June (just to make sure I got my FIFA ranking preview right). And the next thing you know, they asked if I could help them find an opponent for Aug 10.
@Amir
I don't know - the friendly wasn't (very much) FIFA Ranking related. I did help schedule two friendlies with the purpose of climbing in the rankings but I wasn't involved in the discussions. It is possible for their averages to go down, but right now I can't be bothered to investigate.
@Edgar
ReplyDeleteHow does this work, this talking to other federations? Do they speak English? I saw the Armenian language in the link and I've never seen anything like it.
What made them ask you for help anyway? How could they have even thought you'd be able to help them?
Yes they do. I can also speak French and a bit of Spanish and Italian. Then there's always Google Translate to help me out :)
ReplyDeleteBecause in the past I asked them to play a friendly against a certain national team.
@ Edgar
ReplyDeleteA man of many talents, eh?
Which national team, and why?
To improve their FIFA ranking and for obvious reasons I can't tell which national team :) Not Romania though.
ReplyDeletePro bono work anyway.
@ Edgar
ReplyDeleteDo you have a soft spot for Armenia? Why would you help them?
I had to look up Pro bono.
Oh, did they actually play the team or not?
Everyday is a school day. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't say I helped Armenia - it was a different national team. Let's call it Bestrudia. I helped them schedule 3 friendlies. They won two and lost one. However, they also scheduled friendlies without my advice and it didn't turn out very well in the end.
@ Edgar
ReplyDeleteAt the School of Life :)
Oh you mean you set up 3 friendlies for this other team, and one was a match against Armenia?
No, Armenia weren't interested in playing against Bestrudia. They were busy preparing for Russia.
ReplyDelete@ Edgar
ReplyDeleteGo on. Tell me who "Bestrudia" are. You know you want to :)
No, I don't :)
ReplyDeleteAwww! :)
ReplyDeleteYou dont need 100000 swiss frank , you just need to do insurance that covers this amount. Regards
ReplyDeleteThe insurance needs to cover 200000 CHF and I really couldn't afford that :)
