FIFA Ranking: November 2012 final preview

FIFA will publish the ranking on 7 November.

Just one match left: Vietnam - Malaysia, a friendly scheduled for tomorrow. This is how the points can change for these two teams:

Vietnam (W: 217, D: 207, L: 202, not included: 212)
Malaysia (W: 142, D: 132, L: 127, not included: 133)

In the table below I've used the minimum values.

On 9 October, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has declared the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifying match Sudan-Zambia of 2 June 2012 to be lost by forfeit by Sudan (0-3), but the result still appears as 2-0 win for Sudan. I wrote to FIFA - got no reply. I will use the 2 - 0 result.

  3. MV, Dodi,

It has already been established that the FIFA ranking tool is not up-to-date with regard to the latest removals and inclusions of matches in the FIFA fixture list.

The matches France-Serbia (May 31), France-Iceland (May 27) and Brunei-Indonesia (September 26) are new inclusions in the calculation of the November ranking.

    1. Thanks, Ed.
I trust Edgar over FIFA, of course. Just wanted to know why the difference.

  4. FIFA has Haiti's match against non-FIFA French Guyana listed in the prediction tool. I'm guessing it's just an error, but according to the tool, if Haiti beat the 2 FIFA teams (Guyana and Grenada) they'll go up to 608pts, which would be 1pt behind 3rd in CONCACAF Panama. However, since Panama are going to play Spain of all nations in a friendly, I imagine Haiti would go 3rd in CONCACAF with 2 wins! Panama will only prevent it with a victory. They'll drop points if they tie. Jamaica and Honduras are incapable of getting to that total.

However, the tool says Haiti will go to 641pts if they defeat all three. This should be bogus though, right?

The fact remains though that Haiti are certainly capable of defeating Guyana and Grenada and going 3rd in CONCACAF and likely breaking into the top 50 in the World.

Haiti could be the new Cuba in the next CONCACAF World Cup qualifying draw.

    1. Can't get through round 2 of World Cup qualifying? Then they'll just get themselves seeded and skip it :)

  5. Lorric,

the possibility to gain match points against a non FIFA-member is even against their own, recently re-published criteria for an 'A'-international match counting for the ranking. Clearly humbug !
This ranking tool evidently uses another list of matches than the official results list.

Btw Jamaica will of course play the Caribbean Cup finals early december (together with Haiti if they qualify) so they will have a fair chance to overtake Haiti in the December ranking.
But still... Haiti has only played 4 'counting' matches this last year of which 3 continental and WC-qualifiers were won. This gives their FIFA points total a great boost. A good run at the second round qualifiers for the Caribbean Cup and after that the finals would certainly see them in contention for a top-3 spot in the CONCACAF ranking order.
