2010 World Cup seeding: Portugal or France? (V)

If both Portugal and France qualify, the French will be among the seeds, because things didn't work out in Portugal's favor.

France won against the Republic of Ireland only 1 - 0. So if France qualify it will have at least 1122 points. There's no way for them to lose at home, but to qualify on away goals. That way France would have had 1088 points.

Argentina lost to Spain.
Greece managed only a draw against Ukraine.
England lost Brazil.
Italy got a point against the Netherlands.

Now Portugal can get only two qualified teams (Russia and Germany) between them and France. Not enough to be seeded.

  1. How does last night's France result get awarded?

    Is it a L (0-1 after 90 mins) or a D (1-1 after 120 mins)?

  2. As a draw. I have no official rule to back this up - but we'll see in a couple of hours.

  3. Yep, you're right, they have 1122 points, which is the same I get by assigning the result as a draw.

I think this is highly unfair to Ireland's ranking.
