According to unnamed sources at Hampden Park, a revolutionary blueprint is currently considered by Scottish FA board.
The report highlights the 3 points difference between Scotland and the Republic of Ireland (closest between 4th and 3rd in all the groups) and the failure of qualifying to an expanded EURO 2016, despite being one of the promoters of this expansion.

The blame game - an age old problem
Remember the Genesis story about Adam, Eve and the snake? (I believe it's true, by the way.) The blame passing started then and it's still very much happening these days. I see it in my house when I ask my kids who made that mess in their room.
It also happens in football. I saw it in my 6+ years as Romania correspondent for SoccerWay. When a manager comes to a club and has poor results, he will be quick to point the finger to his predecessor and blame him. Some club managers also take this mentality with them when moving into national team management.

Mistake in the English FA work permit FIFA ranking averages
Last week I wrote about the UK work permit and a comment (I did say I have some very knowledgeable readers) made me realize a mistake I've made in my research - and this helped me find a mistake in the ranking produced by the English FA.
First of all, the English FA doesn't use the average FIFA ranking, but the ranking of the averages :)

I've heard a lot of people talking about the the work permit rules.
I took a look at the average rankings for this transfer window, the number of competitive matches in the last two years and the number of players each country had in the English Premier League last season - non-EU (European Union) countries only.

Futsal in the FIFA ranking and Canada's demographic explosion
Last Friday, FIFA published the statistical kits for the Olympic draw (men and women).
You will notice the dramatic demographic explosion taking place in Canada. Their population suddenly increased from 34,3 millions to 314 millions (see page 11). Of course, someone at FIFA just made a mistake when sorting the table.
On Wednesday, futsal matches appeared in the list of football fixtures and in the FIFA ranking prediction tool. This is fixed now, but here's a little screen shot.

Mircea Lucescu criticises FIFA
Mircea Lucescu is really a great manager. In the last 20 years, only three managers outside of Western Europe have managed to win an European trophy. All three have won the UEFA Cup: Fatih Terim (2000 with Galatasaray), Valery Gazzaev (2005 with CSKA Moscow) and Lucescu (2009 with Shakhtar Donetsk).
He also won all sorts of league and cup titles in Romania, Italy (Serie B), Turkey and Ukraine.
He's not always right though.
Last Saturday, in an interview with Dolce Sport, he claimed the seedings have been introduced in order to have the strongest teams at the final tournaments and that before these seedings were introduced, the draws were open and anything could happen. He also said that because of the seeding, countries with a footballing tradition have the upper hand and thus it will be very difficult for Romania to qualify.
Probably long time ago there were open draws for the preliminaries, but in recent history, Europe has always used seeding and Romania were in the first pot 4 (yes, four!) times. Two of these times they failed to qualify...

With a draw against Bulgaria and keeping the same draw order, Romania's opponents for the 2010 World Cup would have been: Norway, Switzerland, Moldova, Letonia and Luxembourg.

A look at the flag chasers
In February, Estonia announced they will be playing against France in a friendly scheduled for 5 June. They will thus become the first ever team to have played all 52 fellow European footballing nations (see article on fifa.com).

FIFA preparing for South Sudan membership
On 10 February 2012, South Sudan became members of CAF (Confederation of African Football) during CAF's 34th Ordinary General Assembly in Libreville, Gabon. FIFA membership may soon follow at the FIFA Congress set to be held in Budapest (Hungary) in May.
However, FIFA are already preparing for South Sudan. Sometime in November/December 2011, the FIFA trigramme for Sudan was changed from SUD to SDN. Most likely SUD will be South Sudan's trigramme.

Team GB - what do you make of it?
As far as I understand, most of the Welsh and Scottish football fans are against the idea of "Team GB", a Great Britain football team that will participate as hosts at the 2012 London Olympics.
The Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish football associations are reluctant to participate, because they fear they will lose their independent status within FIFA and their IFAB spots.
However, it seems the English FA have approached players from the other home nations despite the opposition of the FAs.

I've been asked by a Welsh reader to write an article about this to see "how this is received by a global audience". :)

2. Is this story making headlines (or at least the back page) in your country and what are your national media saying about it?

Possible error in the UEFA Under-21 regulations
In Annex I of the UEFA European Under-21 regulations, article 3 b) says:
In the case of an association that hosted a UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament during one of the last two full cycles and therefore has no points from the respective qualifying competition, the points earned in the qualifying competition of the 2009-11 UEFA European Under-21 Championship are used.
In my opinion, this is wrong.
Denmark hosted the 2009-11 final tournament, thus it can't use the points from 2009-11 qualifiers. Maybe it should use the points from the 2011-13 qualifiers.

End of my match agent "career"
In my short career as match agent (not actually a match agent, obviously), I managed to schedule two friendlies: Lithuania - Armenia in August 2011 and Armenia - Canada in February 2012.
Both for free. However, since I spent quite some time searching for opponents, I will stick to being a blogger and won't lose more time on this - it's a bit time consuming.

I noticed two weeks ago on StatCounter that I received a couple of visits from someone using Federation Internationale De Football Association as Internet provider.

I'm not very popular in Wales
BBC mentioned me again in one of their articles. The reaction in Wales was, well, not very benign.
Geek, mega-nerd, give him a smack, "I don't like you" and obviously the F-word salutation. :)
Apparently it's my fault Wales are in pot 6.
Couple of things to point out.
1. The newspapers said FIFA made an error. This is not 100% correct. We will never know if FIFA would have actually placed Wales in Pot 5.
2. I would have written similar articles if the situation would have been the other way around (i.e. Wales wrongly displayed below the Faroe Islands in the rankings).
3. I wrote to FAW on May 27 telling them they are in danger of falling in Pot 6. Actually, I wrote to all (yes, all) UEFA/CAF associations about the pots as soon as their team were locked in a pot.
4. Wales would have needed only a win against American Samoa in June or July in order to climb in Pot 5 at the expense of the Faroe Islands.
5. Wales could have asked me what they need to do to avoid Pot 6.
6. Who knows, maybe Wales and Faroe Islands will be in same group. Happened four years ago with Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein.
P.S. Something good came out of the BBC article. I got a job offer in London thanks to it. Won't be going though.

3. I wrote to FAW on May 27 telling them they are in danger of falling in Pot 6. Actually, I wrote to all (yes, all) UEFA/CAF associations about the pots as soon as their team were locked in a pot.
4. Wales would have needed only a win against American Samoa in June or July in order to climb in Pot 5 at the expense of the Faroe Islands.
5. Wales could have asked me what they need to do to avoid Pot 6.
6. Who knows, maybe Wales and Faroe Islands will be in same group. Happened four years ago with Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein.
P.S. Something good came out of the BBC article. I got a job offer in London thanks to it. Won't be going though.
