FIFA Women's Ranking: August 2012 preview

Next update: 10 August 2012

FIFA will publish the ranking on 17 August.

Only 15 teams can still change their totals (11 of them will be at the Olympics).

The current rank shown in the next two tables is the current rank as of today - see the third table. That's why Brazil are 4th and not 5th as in the June ranking.

  1. You said 13 teams will be at the olympics, but only 12 teams will participate. Also how will the results of Team GB affect the rankings?

  2. Appears to be a typo on his part. Eleven of those 15 national teams will compete at the Olympics, plus non-FIFA side Great Britain. The non-Olympic matches are SCO vs ISL, Aug 4; BLG vs WAL, Aug 5 and Aug 8.
Edgar suggested when I asked via email that "Team Great Britain"'s matches would be ignored by FIFA as exhibitions, and that is bourne out by those matches not appearing on the FIFA calendar at all. I think this is equivalent to what happens on the men's side when a CONCACAF or OFC tournament features a tiny island nation that never joined FIFA.

Yes, my mistake - should have been 11, not 13.
