FIFA Ranking: April 2009 final preview

Point totals for teams from the top 20 of the October 2007 ranking should be 100% correct. For the others, there's the issue of historical rankings published before July 2006.

FIFA will publish the April 2009 ranking on April 8th.

Kuwait - Iran 0 - 1 (March 23, 2009) lost A match status because Iran used 11 substitutes.
Solomon Islands - Vanuatu 1 - 2 (Friendly - July 7, 2008) and Djibouti - Somalia 2 - 3 (Friendly - December 23, 2008) have been added to the calculation.

  1. Edgar, would you be able to show a fifa ranking with only the points gained in competitive matches (continental and world cup qualifiers, continental cup, world cup, confederations cup and without friendlies)?.
I think it can be interesting..

  2. I did something like this in October 2007

    Clasamentul FIFA fara meciuri amicale

    It's in Romanian.

However - there's one problem. I would have to recalculate all the rankings in the last four years because discarding friendly matches also means the old rankings (used to compute the new one) would have changed.

  3. no ... it would be inhumane ..
I wanted to say without recalculating the old rankings, but maintaining the points earned in the individual matches unchanged.
