FIFA ranking: June 2019 probable ranking

After the rather quiet months April and May the action starts in the fully packed months June and July: a whopping 3 continental finals for CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and CAF will be played simultaneously from mid June onwards. Before that EURO 2020 qualifiers and the UEFA Nations League 2018/2019 finals are played. Furthermore, there are lots of (preparatory) friendlies scheduled and o yeah, the qualification for the next World Cup 2022 in Qatar starts with first round play-offs for the lowest ranked Asian teams. The COSAFA Cup 2019 in the meantime is already underway.

I'm glad that the hasty and greedily expansion to 48 teams for the WC 2022 is as easily discarded as it was suddenly introduced. Plenty of time left to discuss the dodgy resulting competition format for the 48-team 2026 tournament, I guess.

Here is the probable June 2019 ranking, to be published on Friday (!) June 14th.

This preview is calculated with elo-predicted results for all 131 currently scheduled and according to my method included matches, out of a total of 153 currently scheduled matches. See the probable results for a list of which scheduled matches are included.

  1. I just saw this on espn.com:

"For the 2018 World Cup, FIFA held a gala for the preliminary round draw of all confederations. However, this will not happen for the 2022 tournament.

A FIFA spoksperson told ESPN: "Given the fact that the FIFA World Cup 2022 will take place in November-December and that each confederation plans a different timeline for their qualifiers to the tournament, it has been agreed that a preliminary draw will be held separately for each one of them."

  3. Best solution for Uefa is qualifying draw for 2022 World Cup in November / December 2020 after knowing finalists of next Uefa Nations League. All dates before will handle some scheduling problems. I expect 10 groups for European qualifying of 2022 World Cup. It should be the same structure as for Euro 2020 with the difference to guarantee qualification to only the group winners. No idea of playoff format. If they follow the 10 groups format they have only 3 open slots after decision to stay with 32 teams for this edition. Does anybody have more information?

  4. I found the following article from last week:

    https://www.apnews.com/d30c09518ce940ac8e86a8f04c34dee3

Uefa is currently working on a qualification procedure:

    The following Option was mentioned.
Looks like 10 Groups like Euro 2020. The winners take direct qualification. The runners up and two Teams from Nations league 2020 can fill 3 Playoff tournaments consisting of four Teams to determine the final 3 spots of 2022 World Cup qualification.
