EURO 2016 qualifying draw seeding (6 July 2012)

Next update: 21 September 2012.

The coefficients for the EURO 2016 qualifying draw will take into account results from:

2010 World Cup (qualifiers and final tournament) - 20% of total weighting
EURO 2012 (qualifiers and final tournament) - 40% of total weighting
2014 World Cup (qualifiers) - 40% of total weighting

Click here for more info on the coefficient system.

The qualifying format is already known (but things might change): 9 groups (2 x 5, 7 x 6)

Top two from each group and the best team in third place advance. The other eight play-off for the final four spots.

Portugal replace Sweden in the first pot.

Best movers:

5 - Portugal and Czech Republic
3 - Poland
1 - Germany

Worst movers:

-2 - Sweden and Ireland
-1 - Netherlands, Russia, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Norway, Montenegro, Wales and Northern Ireland

  2. I already include the 2014 points (well, as zero).

I compared my Spain points with yours for 2008 and 2010 - they are the same.

    You use (I think) (WC10 + 2*EC12)/3. I use (WC10 + 2*EC12 + 2*0) / 5.

  3. So group E in WCQ has none of the 16 best teams in European competitions over the past 4 years.

God I hate the FIFA ranking.

    1. Good point Haakon :)

That was true even at the time of the EURO 2012 final draw.

    2. Switzerland is a force, they have a golden generation coming. I'm very glad they got a qualifying group where they are the favourites, they've deserved it after unlucky euro qualifiers.

    1. How can you remember such groups and numbers? Surely you just made them up.

    2. Oh, on a sidenote, this is the system I've wished for a long time they would use for the U21 European Championship. Expand the tournament to 16 teams and have 10 groups, like they do now, 10 winners, 5 playoff winners, 1 host.
