FIFA Ranking: October 2009 preview (III)

Point totals for teams from the top 20 of the October 2007 ranking should be 100% correct. For the others, there's the issue of historical rankings published before July 2006.

Next update: October 2nd, 2009.

Only four matches left before the deadline, all friendlies:

South Africa - Madagascar
St. Kitts and Nevis - St. Vincent / Grenadines
Mexico - Colombia
China PR - Botswana

This is how these teams' totals could change:

South Africa (W: 432, D: 425, L: 421)
Madagascar (W: 179, D: 136, L: 115)
St. Kitts and Nevis (W: 118, D: 105, L: 99)
St. Vincent / Grenadines (W: 157, D: 140, L: 132)
Mexico (W: 905, D: 892, L: 886)
Colombia (W: 747, D: 722, L: 710)
China PR (W: 312, D: 304, L: 300)
Botswana (W: 246, D: 219, L: 206)

In the ranking table, the value displayed for these teams is the minimum possible value. This means that even if they lose, their total can't drop.

  1. FIFA changed date of October's FIFA ranking release from October 7th to October 16th! So October WC qualifying games will be included!

  2. Twenty European teams in the top 32, but at least 7 will be eliminated from the World Cup, while one between Barhain (#61) and New Zealand (#90) will be in South Africa ...

  3. Thanks Drooler. I kind of expected this.

See this post from February 2009.

  4. There was an additional match
    Argentina 2:0 (2:0) Ghana 30/09/2009 Cordoba Friendly

Would you please calculate the changed Points for Argentina and Ghana?

    Argentina (W:?)
    Ghana (L:?)

  5. stevan, check the updates at the top of the page. FIFA postponed the October ranking, so I had to update the preview and probable ranking.

  6. Okay Edgar, but these probable ranking-points include the preview of the matches of October 10th and 14th and for Ghana October 11th.

But I am interested in a Fifa-Ranking of October 1st (or October 7th) and here I can see all the ranking-points of all countries of October 1st except Argentina and Ghana.

Maybe I could conclude them myself, but I just don't see them.

    So would you please help?

  7. Thanks Edgar!

And special thanks for the speedy reaction!!

Anything new about the exact mode of seeding the by fifa?

Will Fifa seed two pots of four teams, as I presume?

  8. oops, I missed out an important word:
Anything new about the exact mode of seeding the playoffs (UEFA Second Round) by fifa?
    On Wikipedia
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_-_UEFA_Second_Round
    the presumption is also:
The top four teams will be seeded into one pot, with the bottom four teams seeded into a second. A separate draw will be conducted to decide who will host the second leg.[1]
But the source given, the source I have seen here on
    http://www.football-rankings.info/
    for the first time,
does not explicitly name two pots.

  9. The press conference on that fifa.com article I referenced has all the explanations: 2 pots, 2 separate draws.
